Inter Milan strikers Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez started for their nations in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers while Carlos Augusto remained on the bench for Brazil.
On the night between Thursday and Friday, two Nerazzurri stars were active in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.
Lautaro Martinez led the line for Argentina who secured a slim 1-0 victory over Paraguay. The world champions hosted the encounter in Buenos Aires.
With Lionel Messi starting from the bench, the Inter captain spearheaded Lionel Scaloni’s 4-3-3 formation. Man City star Julian Alvarez and Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez joined him on the flanks.
However, it was Benfica defender Nicolas Otamendi who scored the solitary goal of the evening in the third minute.
As FcInterNews reports, Lautaro remained on the pitch for the entire match. His performance was positive overall and he almost found the back of the net.
For his part, Alexis Sanchez led the charge for Chile who hosted Peru. The home side won 2-0 thanks to goals from Diego Valdes and Marcos Lopez (own goal).
The 34-year-old Nerazzurri veteran played for the entire match. Former Inter player Gary Medel was also in the starting formation.
Finally, Carlos Augusto remained on the bench for the duration of Brazil’s encounter against Venezuela. The 24-year-old received his first international call-up but will have to wait further for his debut.
The Selecao surprisingly dropped two points in a 1-1 draw. Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring early in the second half, but Eduard Bello came off the bench to stun the South American giants.
