Inter Milan stars Denzel Dumfries and Stefan de Vrij earned call-ups for the provisionary Netherlands squad ahead of the upcoming international break.
Even though the September international break has only recently ended, Ronald Koeman is already making plans for the next one.
The former Barcelona and Everton coach has released a primary 26-man squad he might later tweak depending on injuries and other factors.
As usual, the Nerazzurri duo were part of Koeman’s selections. The national team released the 26-year-old through its official X account.
The list also includes the likes of Juventus’ new signing Teun Koopmeiners and Man United duo Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt.
Despite facing stern competition for their respective playing positions, both Dumfries and de Vrij played an integral role in the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 campaign.
The Dutch were eventually eliminated in the semi-finals at the hands of England due to a last-gasp goal from Ollie Watkins.
In the last international break, the Netherlands started their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 2-2 draw against Germany.
They then breezed past Bosnia and Herzegovina by five goals to two. Both encounters took place on Dutch soil.
Nevertheless, two away fixtures await Koeman’s men in October.
They will take on Hungary in Budapest on October 11th before clashing heads with Germany once more on October 14th. The contest will take place at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
For their part, Dumfries and de Vrij will be hoping to play an important role in the national team.
The duo haven’t found much space at Simone Inzaghi’s court thus far this season, especially Dumfries.
The Nerazzurri coach has been favoring Matteo Darmian on the right flank. However, this could change on Sunday when the Italian champions lock horns with AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina.
