Inter Milan are devising a plan that would allow them to sign Genoa star Albert Gudmundsson while keeping Valentin Carboni on the books.
The Iceland international has emerged as a primary target to join the Nerazzurri this summer.
The management considers him as the ideal profile to complete an attacking department that already includes Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram and incoming summer signing Mehdi Taremi.
However, Genoa are requesting 35 million euros to part ways with the 27-year-old who rose to prominence on the back of a superb campaign at the Luigi Ferraris.
Over the past few months, many sources in the Italian media have identified Carboni as a sacrificial lamb.
The 19-year-old spent his campaign on loan at Monza. His displays were promising enough to warrant a call-up from Argentina for the Copa America.
Therefore, the teenager’s sale would yield important figures to the club’s coffers.
But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, the Nerazzurri are keen to maintain the Argentine’s services.
Therefore, Inter are laying an alternative plan that would see them sign Gudmundsson without having to sacrifice Carboni.
As the pink newspaper explains, the Italian champions are looking to replicate the formula used to sign Davide Frattesi from Sassuolo last summer.
In other words, Inter will be looking to sign Gudmundsson on loan with an obligation to buy. This would allow them to defer the cost of the operation to the next financial year.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri wouldn’t have to sell Carboni this summer. That is unless the club receives an irresistible offer that exceeds 40 million euros.
Yet, the Argentina international could still leave on another loan experience as he could struggle for playing time at San Siro.
Fiorentina have already tried to sign Carboni last January while Lazio inquired about his services earlier this month.
Moreover, the source reveals that the teenager is requesting a salary adjustment. He currently earns 800,000 euros per season, while his contract is valid until 2028.
