Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi feels that it doesn’t matter much how the Nerazzurri play against Man City, as long as they lift the trophy.
Speaking to Brazilian broadcaster TNT Sports Brazil, the 35-year-old also gave his thoughts on coming up against Man City striker Erling Haaland.
Inter will be up against one of Europe’s most formidable teams in the form of Manchester City on Saturday.
Accordingly, the Nerazzurri will hardly be able to play the way that they do from week to week. Against a side of the Cityzens’ quality, Inter will have to adjust and figure out a way to negate the opposition’s strength.
From the perspective of Inter defender Acerbi, however, this is not a huge issue.
From the perspective of the former Sassuolo man, as long as they win then they’re happy. He feels that Inter’s aim is to win the Champions League final, regardless of their style of play.
Asked what a perfect final would be like for him, Acerbi replied “I don’t care, just lift the trophy.”
“However you win, you win.”
Acerbi noted that “You can think about how it might go, have mixed emotions, but winning would be the best thing in the world.”
The 35-year-old noted that “We’ve won two finals. Now a third awaits us, but they’ve also won two.”
“Getting this far is nice, and not winning it now would be a great pity,” he added.
“When you play in the biggest matches, you can get the biggest of joys,” he noted. “But also the biggest disappointments.”
“You have to be aware of us, that has to give us motivation.”
Acerbi also spoke about his prospective opposite number on Saturday, Haaland.
“He’s a great striker,” he said of the City striker. “He has proven to be the best centre-forward in the world along with Benzema.”
“As with all great players, we have to stop him as a team,” Acerbi noted. “We didn’t reach the final because of individuals, but because we were cohesive.”
