Inter Milan could turn their attention to Chelsea’s Merih Demiral if Atalanta don’t open up to loaning Merih Demiral.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzettta.it, who report that the Nerazzurri have whittled their list of possible replacements for Milan Skriniar down to the pair, and the question of which they can sign on a loan deal could be crucial in determining their final decision.

Inter must find a replacement for Milan Skriniar who has left to join Paris Saint-Germain. The departure Danilo D’Ambrosio adds further urgency to the Nerazzurri’s casting call for a defensive signing.

A move for Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta fell through, leaving Inter back at square one.

Clearly, the more time that passes, the more signing another defender is a priority.

However, financial restrictions still mean that the Nerazzurri prefer to go for a lower-cost deal.

Inter’s preference is either to sign a player on a free transfer or on a dry loan. Given that free transfer opportunities like Azpilicueta have fallen away, the Nerazzurri’s strategy appears to have turned to the latter possibility.

Inter Milan Could Aim For Chalobah If Demiral Not Available On Loan

Inter are keen on Atalanta defender Merih Demiral.

The 25-year-old former Juventus defender had already been on their radar in January.

Then, the Nerazzurri had hoped to sign Demiral on an initial loan deal. Atalanta may well have opened up to this, though they’d have wanted a purchase obligation in the deal.

The fact that Demiral is on the outs with Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini means that he’s very likely to leave Bergamo this summer.

And Inter want to take advantage of the Turkish international’s unsettled situation at his club.

However, this is not guarantee that Atalanta will open up to any of Inter’s loan offers. Or that the Nerazzurri will be willing to sign Demiral with a purchase obligation.

Accordingly, Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah could return to being Inter’s main target.

The Englishman has been on Inter’s radar since last summer. And given the amount of squad upheaval that Chelsea are seeing this summer, he could leave Stamford Bridge.

Accordingly, Inter are ready to reignite their pursuit of Chalobah if they can’t agree a deal for Demiral with Atalanta.
