Contract talks between Inter Milan and club captain Lautaro Martinez have become “more complicated” than they were in March.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that things haven’t gotten any more straightforward since the last major negotiations.

There is no doubt that Inter and Martinez share a common desire to continue on together.

The 26-year-old has proclaimed this on numerous occasions. His sole priority is to stay at the Nerazzurri, where he is the captain after inheriting the armband last summer.

However, that doesn’t mean that the negotiations have all been simple.

The reason is simple – Inter have not yet offered Martinez wages that would meet his demands.

Therefore, there is still work to do to unlock the negotiations.

Inter Milan & Lautaro Martinez Contract Talks “More Complicated” Than In March

The last time that there was a major round of talks between Inter and Martinez’s agent came in March.

That was on the eve of the second leg of the Nerazzurri’s Champions League round of sixteen tie against Atletico Madrid.

The team were in Madrid for that match. Also in the Spanish capital was Martinez’s agent Alejandro Camano.

Inter and Camano held a meeting to try and make progress from the talks that had taken place during the fall, but failed to result in an agreement in January.

As Tuttosport notes, the fact remained clear that Martinez is expecting wages in double figures if he is to put pen to paper on a new contract.

And Inter may well be able to get to that point. But only with the inclusion of add-ons.

The Nerazzurri could put an offer on the table worth a total of around €10 million net per season. That would be taking all add-ons into account.

But with the weeks having past since then, there is a sense that the parties have not moved any close together.

Given that it is now the start of the summer, that makes things “more complicated” suggests Tuttosport.
