Inter Milan do not consider Marcos Alonso as the right profile to fill in for the injured Tajon Buchanan. Therefore, they could resort to an internal solution.

The Nerazzurri bought the Canadian from Club Brugge in January. And while he was left starving for playing time, Simone Inzaghi was reportedly planning to grant him more opportunities this term after identifying him as Federico Dimarco’s understudy.

However, the 25-year-old suffered a fractured tibia while on international duty with Canada who are competing in Copa America. The winger underwent surgery yesterday, but could be out for around five months.

Last night, Inter president Beppe Marotta publicly out a move for former Chelsea and Barcelona left-back Marcos Alonso.

So according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, the Italian champions could decide against intervening in the market.

In other words, the Nerazzurri might opt to entrust their current ranks until Buchanan returns from injury.

In this case, Carlos Augusto would return to acting as a second-choice left wingback.

The Brazilian joined the club last summer. He initially served as Dimarco’s backup.

But following Buchanan’s arrival in mid-season, the former Monza man became increasingly more involved at the back, acting as Alessandro Bastoni’s understudy in the left centre-back slot.

Hence, Augusto could have a double role next season, filling in for both Dimarco and Bastoni when needed. That is at least until Buchanan’s return from injury.

Moreover, Inzaghi can also count on the versatile Matteo Darmian in this position. The Italy veteran is able to interpret several roles, including the left wingback.
