Inter Milan are considering a move for Lille and Canada striker Jonathan David on a free transfer next summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Canadian could be part of Inter’s long-term strategy in attack.

As far as this summer, Inter still have a couple of matters to sort out in attack.

What’s clear is that Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, and Mehdi Taremi will all form the basis of Inter’s attack this coming season.

Meanwhile, Marko Arnautovic has made his desire to stay. But Inter could always listen to offers for the Austrian.

And in the case of Joaquin Correa, FCIN report that a surprise stay cannot be entirely ruled out.

If there are no suitable offers for the Argentine, Inter could keep him for the final season of his contract. He would give the squad more depth as a fifth senior forward.

On the other hand, if Arnautovic and Correa leave then Inter could make a signing in attack.

In that respect, Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson remains the primary target.

Next summer, though, Inter are almost certain to make an attacking signing in any event.

Both Arnautovic and Correa are out of contract at the end of next June.

Therefore, Inter are already starting to think about what opportunities may present themselves in attack.

And one big one that the Nerazzurri have been tracking for a long time is 24-year-old Canadian international David.

The former Gent striker is still at Lille. He has not left the Ligue 1 club despite numerous transfer rumours in the last couple of windows.

And David’s contract with Lille expires at the end of next June.

Therefore, it is looking increasingly as though David will remain at Lille and then leave on a free transfer next summer.

Inter are certainly no strangers to exploiting free transfer opportunities. And David would be one of the big ones next summer if he is indeed available.

Therefore, FCIN report, the Nerazzurri are already thinking about laying the groundwork to sign David.
