Inter Milan are confident of being able to sign Talleres defender Tomas Palacios, but are also keeping negotiations open with Barcelona for Mikayil Faye.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.

One thing that is abundantly clear is that Inter’s priority for the last couple weeks of the transfer window is to sign a defender.

The Nerazzurri want a young defender. Specifically, they are in search for a player who can back up Alessandro Bastoni on the left of the back three.

And according to Sky, Inter are taking steps to make absolutely certain they end up signing a defender with that profile before the end of the summer window.

Inter Confident Of Signing Palacios – But Still Negotiating With Barcelona For Faye

According to Sky, Inter are confident about the prospect of signing Talleres defender Tomas Palacios.

The Argentine has looked to be Inter’s top target for around a week.

But the biggest hurdle in getting a deal done to sign Palacios has been the player’s ownership situation.

The 21-year-old is owned by Talleres, but on loan at Independiente Rivadivia. However, Rivadivia have a purchase option to buy 50% of the player’s contract.

Therefore, in order for Inter to sign Palacios, they must convince Rivadivia on a deal that would see the latter end the defender’s loan prematurely.

However, Sky confirm that the two Argentine clubs have reached an agreement.

The broadcaster report that the two clubs have held talks in the last couple days. They have ironed out the structure of a deal that would allow Palacios to join Inter.

Therefore, Inter feel that a deal for the 21-year-old is now very much within reach. They are expecting to be able to sign Palacios soon.

However, Sky report, Inter are nevertheless keeping their options open.

The Nerazzurri do not want to only focus their attention on Palacios and not have a backup plan in the event that a deal for the Argentine falls through.

The 20-year-old Senegalese international has a similar profile to Palacios. Inter could look to sign him if they cannot bring in Palacios.
