Simone Inzaghi has stressed to the Inter Milan squad not to make too much “drama” – but also the need to bounce back against Fiorentina.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the coach’s team talk was measured, and he stressed that the Serie A title pursuit is still on track.
There’s no denying that Inter suffered a big setback on Thursday.
The Nerazzurri failed to take any points from their Serie A game in hand against Fiorentina. Therefore, they are three points behind Napoli in the table having played the same number of matches.
And more than that, Inter suffered a defeat that was nothing short of humiliating.
Inter lost 3-0 to Fiorentina, their first defeat by a three-goal margin since 2019. And the scoreline was not harsh on the Nerazzurri, who looked off the pace in all respects.
Naturally, the mood in training after Thursday’s debacle has focused on the hunger for the team to reassert itself.
Apart from Inzaghi, Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio and Assistant Sporting Director Dario Baccin have showed up in training. Then, so did club President Beppe Marotta.
But according to the Corriere, there have been no dramatic, angry speeches.
The newspaper report that Simone Inzaghi did give his team talk.
But the Inter coach took a relatively calm tone considering the circumstances.
Inzaghi told the Nerazzurri squad to avoid “drama.” He wants to treat Thursday’s match as a blip and a temporary setback.
Simone Inzaghi sees the target as getting to the head-to-head match with Napoli at the start of March no more than three points behind the current league leaders.
That would give Inter the chance to catch up in that match.
Admittedly, the Nerazzurri are not in a commanding position in the title race. However, they are not as far off where they want to be as might seem after Thursday’s debacle.
And that was the main message that Inzaghi gave to his players.
