Inter are still assessing their options as far as signing a defender this summer.

The Nerazzurri’s plan is to sign a player who can play on the left of the back three.

This would be to back up Alessandro Bastoni, and allow Carlos Augusto to play exclusively or primarily at wingback.

Augusto will be needed on the flanks whilst Tajon Buchanan recovers from a broken leg that he suffered this summer.

Inzaghi Wants Inter To Sign Ricardo Rodriguez – Oaktree Have Other Ideas

According to Le Repubblica, the preference of Inter coach Inzaghi would be to sign former AC Milan and Wolfsburg defender Rodriguez.

The 31-year-old is available on a free transfer. His contract with Serie A side Torino expired at the end of last month.

Therefore, Rodriguez would not represent that big of an investment for Inter, as he would not demand particularly high wages.

Moreover, Rodriguez would likely be happy to accept a short-term contract.

And the Swiss international would also be willing to accept the role of backup option rather than demanding a starting place.

Given Rodriguez’s willingness to settle for a place as a backup, this would be advantageous for not disrupting the balance of the squad.

Moreover, the 31-year-old is a player who Inzaghi believes would fit right in without needing an adaptation period.

But on the other hand, Inter owners Oaktree would like to invest in a younger player.

The Nerazzurri owners do not want to sign a player just for the short term. They want to bring in a defender who could improve over the next few years, and who would also have resale value.

In that respect, Arsenal’s Jaukub Kiwior looks to be one of the main options that Inter could pursue, reports La Repubblica.
