Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is anticipating three highly important matches for the team’s season over the next week or so.
Speaking to InterTV ahead of the team’s Serie A clash with Udinese tomorrow, via FCInterNews, the coach also spoke about the issues with midfielder Nicolo Barella’s temper that emerged against Sampdoria, noting that the player sometimes gets a little too intense because he cares about the team.
In the next week, Inter will have the chance to get their Serie A campaign back on track following the disappointing draw against Sampdoria with matches against Udinese and then Bologna.
In between these two matches, the Nerazzurri will finally play the long-awaited first leg of their Champions League round of sixteen tie against Porto, hoping to reach the quarterfinals of the competition.
“These are three very important matches, all in the space of one week,” Inzaghi said.
“We’ll have to know how to approach them at our best, each will be a different match, but at the moment we’re only focusing on Udinese,” he continued.
Of the match against Udinese tomorrow, the coach stressed that “It’s an important match, which we have to approach in the best way possible.”
“I’m repeating myself, but regardless of the looming Champions League match our focus is only on Udinese.”
Of the incident that saw midfielder Barella get into a spat with his teammate Romelu Lukaku on Monday whilst facing Sampdoria, the coach said that “Barella cares a lot about the cause of the team and he’s very driven, he always wants to win.”
“Sometimes that intensity means that he gets wound up, but we all know what the kind of guy he is,” he added.
“I have total faith in him just like all the other players.”
Of the failure to beat Sampdoria on Monday and the need to return to winning ways against Udinese, Inzaghi said that “We always look for the win.”
“In Genoa, fate was against us, we probably should have been more aggressive and more clinical in front of goal, but the team had the right attitude and tried to win the game until the 95th minute.”
Of the team’s recent form, which has seen several consecutive clean sheets, Inzaghi said that “The solidity of these last few matches is a very positive sign, and it’s to everyone’s credit as everyone defends together as a team.”
“Tomorrow we know it will be a tough match, against a strong side, who have both great physical and technical qualities,” the coach added.
Asked if he plans to rest Lautaro Martinez or any other players tomorrow, Inzaghi replied that “Today’s and tomorrow’s training sessions are still to come.”
“I’ll try to make my evaluations as to who is ready to start, but it’s also worth noting that I’ll need absolutely everyone tomorrow, both the players who start and the ones who come off the bench.”
