Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is happy with the win over Lazio in the Italian Super Cup while recalling an anecdote from his maiden campaign at the club.

The Nerazzurri booked their place in Monday’s final with a 3-0 rooting against the Italian capital side. They will meet Napoli who beat Fiorentina with the same scoreline.

But despite enjoying his team’s commanding display, the Beneamata manager is still urging his team to improve their game.

“We always have to improve. It would be an understatement to say that Inter played a great match,” noted Inzaghi in his post-match press conference in Riyadh via FcInterNews.

“In two and a half years, we have played many important matches. The team’s tempo has always been high.

“So this was an eye-opening performance for some of those watching us tonight. We were very good against an organized team.”

The Inter coach admitted that some of the team’s recent displays weren’t at the required level, but he’s been pleased with the last outings (against Monza and Lazio).

“Each match is a story in itself. Some displays weren’t at the required technical level. However, the last two have been good.

“I enjoyed watching my players’ performance, but this has been the case for two and a half years.

“It’s never easy to play against Lazio, we’ve always struggled against them. But we were excellent in our last two battles against them.”

Inzaghi admitted that he had Monday’s final in mind while preparing for the semi-final.

“It’s right to always look ahead. I have to do my best as a coach to look forward to tonight’s match while simultaneously focusing on Monday’s clash.

“We have to follow up on tonight with a great final on Monday.”

The 47-year-old also reveals how the objective changed from Top Four to the Scudetto during his first season at the club (in 2021/22).

“I always felt that my Inte played well. But producing strong displays for 60 matches is not easy for anyone. Injuries could also derail your momentum.

“But since March onwards, Inter have been pleasant on the eye.

“When I arrived at the club, the objective was finishing fourth place. Then, after three months, the Scudetto became the minimum objective. But it’s not a problem. It’s all fine now.”

Moreover, Inzaghi says time will tell whether or not this edition of Inter is the strongest under his guidance.

“It’s not a simple question. Let’s not forget that we won two trophies in each of the past two campaigns. We also reached the Champions League final last term.

“Time will tell, I’m satisfied for the fans who are having fun and who came here this evening to see us play.”

Finally, the Nerazzurri boss is feeling confident ahead of the final against Napoli, especially after winning the last two editions.

“A final is always a final. I feel great in Riyadh. I won against Juve and Milan. This year we will play a final between the Italian champions and the Coppa Italia winners.

“We are happy to reach this stage and hope to enchant our fans on Monday.”
