Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi: “Never Had Any Doubts That San Siro & Curva Nord Would Respect Milan Skriniar” | OneFootball

Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that it was never in doubt that the San Siro and the Curva Nord would be respectful towards defender Milan Skriniar despite the fact that he has announced he plans to leave at the end of the season.

Speaking in a press conference after the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 Serie A win over AC Milan, as reported by FCInterNews, the coach stressed that he always expected the Nerazzurri fans to give their support to Skriniar, whilst he also gave his reaction to the match.

The revelation that Skriniar intends to leave at the end of the season has certainly sent shockwaves throughout the Nerazzurri over the past couple of weeks.

However, things have started to settle down, and all parties look to have accepted the reality that the Slovakian will join Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the campaign but still fully intends to give his all for Inter over the rest of the season.

“I had no doubts because the Curva Nord is always behind us,” Inzaghi said of the Nerazzurri fans’ reception of Skriniar, “as with the whole stadium – they were a driving force for the team, with us from start to finish.”

Of his team’s performance, Inzaghi said that “I’m satisfied, I congratulated the team because they were perfect.”

“I don’t remember a derby that’s been dominated like that,” he added.

“We were coming off Tuesday’s efforts,” the coach said referring to a tough Coppa Italia quarterfinal match against Atalanta, “and we played a great derby.”

“Winning two derbies in twenty days doesn’t happen every season, and then we have to remember that one of them allowed us to win a trophy.”

“Let’s not look forward or backward in the table, let’s enjoy tonight,” he added. “And then we’ll think about Sampdoria.”

Asked how he intends to reintegrate midfielder Marcelo Brozovic into the team now that the Croat is back fit, the coach replied that “He fits in wonderfully with everyone, he’s a very good player who we missed for four months even if some maybe forgot that.”

“We got out of our Champions League group, won the Supercoppa and, after a few initial stumbles, we’ve been almost perfect in the league after losing to Roma.”

Of the performance by striker Romelu Lukaku from the bench, Inzaghi said that “He wouldn’t have played on Tuesday if I hadn’t deemed him ready.”

“I don’t hand out free appearances to anyone, from the bench or the start, to anyone,” the coach stressed.

“Dzeko and Lautaro were good, and then Lukaku came on and did well,” he went on, “the team spirit is great.”

And asked whether he anticipated the switch to a 3-5-2 formation by Milan coach Stefano Pioli, Inzaghi said that “There’s been talk of it in the past few days, but I worried about my own team.”

“Every Sunday we play against a defense whether it’s three-man or four-man, and today we bordered on perfection.”

“In the second half we were in control, the first shot we conceded came in the 75th minute,” Inzaghi stressed.
