Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that the angry reaction of striker Edin Dzeko to being substituted against Porto was understandable, and that the player has gotten over it.

Speaking in a press conference following the Champions League round of sixteen first leg win, as reported by FCInterNews, the coach noted that he sometimes reacted the same way to being subbed off as a player, and that the Bosnian celebrated Romelu Lukaku’s goal with the right attitude.

Dzeko did not make any effort to hide his feelings when he was taken off the pitch for Romelu Lukaku just before the hour mark of yesterday evening’s clash with Porto.

The 36-year-old was angry, clearly feeling that he still had a part to play in the match before the coach decided to switch things up in attack.

However, for his part, Inzaghi understands what the player was feeling as a former striker himself, and he is not worried about it.

“I got angry as a player when I was substituted in matches like this too,” the coach noted, “it was enough for me to see him spring to his feet after Lukaku’s goal, these things happen when there’s so much adrenaline, and he’s done so much for us over the past few months.”

The coach said that “We have a slight advantage that we’ll try to capitalize on,” ahead of the next leg.

“Porto are a physical team with a lot of experience, they’re used to these matches,” he continued.

Inzaghi called it “A good victory, I still don’t know how their keeper made the save that he did in the first half.”

“In the second half we got stretched out a bit, we were at risk from some counterattacks before the substitutes came on.”

Of the presence of a number of players expected to be injured for Porto, Inzaghi said that “We didn’t expect Galeno, Otavio, and Uribe, and then Evanilson as well.”

“Beyond that, Porto are still a strong team, we’ll have to face them at our best in Porto.”

Inzaghi noted that “Otavio had been marking Calhanoglu, they came our aggressively to whoever was on the ball.”

“We did well, though our buildup play could have been faster in the first half.”

“With or without a red card, the win was deserved,” he added, “and then in twenty days we play the return leg which will be very challenging.”
