Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi: ‘Federico Dimarco Has Never Been Gifted Anything, Benjamin Pavard Fitting In Well’ | OneFootball

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is happy with how defender Benjamin Pavard is fitting in since his move to the Nerazzurri.

Speaking in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews, the coach also praised wingback Federico Dimarco.

French international defender Pavard was one of the marquee arrivals of Inter’s summer.

The Nerazzurri spent big money to bring the 27-year-old in from Bayern Munich. And he has big shoes to fill, considering that he is essentially the like-for-like replacement for Milan Skriniar.

Pavard did not start in the first couple of matches that he had as an Inter player.

There was a settling-in period necessary.

But the Frenchman has played the fully ninety minutes in each of Inter’s last two matches, against Real Sociedad and Empoli.

And for his part, Inzaghi is happy with the initial impact that Pavard has made in a Nerazzurri shirt.

Inzaghi said of Pavard that “I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him a lot. He’s immediately fitting it well with the group.”

“We all know how good of a player he is,” the Inter coach added of Pavard.

“He had two excellent matches, first in San Sebastian and then here. He and Darmian did very well.”

Inzaghi also had words of praise for wingback Dimarco, Inter’s match-winner against Empoli.

“Federico has shown a lot in the last two two and a half years with me,” the coach said. “He deserved to be named in the best eleven in the Champions League.”

“He always wants to improve, nothing was ever gifted to him,” the coach made clear. “He deserves everything based on what he shows on the pitch.”

Inzaghi also said that “Today we had to do better. We should have gone into the last ten minutes with another goal, which would have allowed us to suffer less.”

The Inter coach was also pleased that his team did not make a meal of a match against a “smaller” team, as was often the case last season.

“These matches are very important for our progress,” Inzaghi said.

“I congratulated the guys for their patience and the approach they took,” he continued.

“We had to score a second goal, because then  we ended up going down to ten after a player got an injury when we’d already used all our substutions.”

“We have played ten minutes with then men, and obviously with another goal advantage we would have suffered less.”

Overall, Inzaghi said that “We played an excellent match, which we had just two days to prepare for.”

“We arrived at five in the morning back from San Sebastian, but the guys did very well,” he added.
