Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is reportedly considering using Davy Klaassen as an attacking midfielder in upcoming matches.

The 30-year-old joined the Nerazzurri on the summer transfer window’s deadline day. Ajax agreed to rescind his contract, allowing him to sign for the Italian giants as a free agent.

The Dutchman finally made his club debut in the final minutes of yesterday’s 1-2 defeat at the hands of Sassuolo.

While he hardly had the time to make an impact on Wednesday, the versatile midfielder could earn a more prominent chance in the coming fixtures.

According to La Repubblica via FcInter1908, Inzaghi could soon deploy Klaassen as an attacking midfielder.

As the source explains, the Nerazzurri currently have few options upfront following Marko Arnautovic’s injury.

In yesterday’s match, club captain Lautaro Martinez appeared tired, putting up an underwhelming display. The Argentine has started in every match thus far this season.

At the moment, Alexis Sanchez is the only alternative for both Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

Inter Milan Manager Simone Inzaghi Could Thrust Davy Klaassen In An Advanced Position On The Pitch

Therefore, Inzaghi has to come up with some solutions upfront. One of the ideas could be pushing Klaassen further up the pitch. The former Ajax man would act as an attacking midfielder in a 3-5-1-1 formation.

As the source explains, Inzaghi initially considered the Netherlands international as an alternative to Hakan Calhanoglu in the deep-lying playmaker role.

Nevertheless, Klaassen is used to playing in an advanced position. In fact, he scored 93 goals in his 321 matches throughout his two stints at Ajax.
