Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is hoping to have striker Romelu Lukaku at his best physically when his team face Porto at the San Siro later this month.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri coach is hoping to use Serie A matches against the likes of Sampdoria and Udinese to get the Belgian fully match-fit.

Lukaku has been back from injury in Inter’s last couple matches, starting against Atalanta in the Coppa Italia before coming off the bench in the second half of Sunday’s Milan derby win.

The 29-year-old has not quite looked at his sharpest, or at least not over long stretches.

However, the sense is that peak fitness is now not far away for Lukaku.

Inzaghi is intending to start the Belgian against Sampdoria next Monday, and he is hoping that by the time that the team get to their Champions League round of sixteen first leg against Porto, the striker is very close to his best.
