Inter Milan Coach Says Ex West Ham Striker Has To “Stay Calm” Despite Serie A Goal Drought | OneFootball

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that striker Marko Arnautovic needs to “stay calm” despite the fact that he’s yet to score in Serie A.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN following the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 Serie A win over Lecce, via FCInterNews, the 47-year-old urged patience in his striker. He also praised defender Yann Bisseck.

Arnautovic did not have an altogether unproductive match in the final third against Lecce yesterday evening.

The Austrian produced a memorable backheel assist for Nicolo Barella for Inter’s second goal to wrap up the win.

And it was a battling performance from the former Bologna and West Ham United veteran.

Arnautovic had a tough marker in the form of Lecce defender Federico Baschirotto. But the Inter player still held his own in the physical tussle, and held up the ball for the team.

But one thing Arnautovic did not do was stick the ball in the back of the net.

The striker did have a couple opportunities to do so.

But perhaps lacking a bit of confidence in front of goal, Arnautovic was unable to score from them.

Inzaghi Urges Marko Arnautovic To “Stay Calm” Despite Lack of Goals

“He did very well,” Inzaghi said of Arnautovic’s performance.

“The only regret is that he didn’t score.”

“But he has to stay calm, because he did an incredible job that was appreciated by the fans, by the coaching staff, and above all by his teammates,” Inzaghi said of the Austrian’s performance.

Of the strike partnership of Marko Arnautovic and Marcus Thuram, Inzaghi said that “They did well.”

“We knew that Lecce are aggressive in pressing the ball carrier,” he continued.

“So we knew that they would find themselves between the two Lecce centre-backs.”

“The three midfielders were the freshest ones and it showed,” he continued.

“The strikers didn’t score goals, but they might as well have,” Inzaghi made clear.

“They did an excellent job for the team.”

And the Inter coach also praised young defender Yann Bisseck, who scored his first ever goal for Inter to break the deadlock against Lecce in the first half.

“We signed him on July 13,” the coach noted. “I had only seen him on video up to that point.”

“I didn’t know anything about him.”

The coach said of Bisseck that “He’s put his head down, and he’s gotten better and better in training.”

“He deserves everything that he’s been getting,” Inzaghi said of the German.

“Today Pavard was able to play,” the coach said.

“But with the performance he’s been putting in, it was right to keep him in the team.”
