Simone Inzaghi is ready to make changes to the Inter Milan lineup against Lecce after evidence of tiredness in the team’s Serie A draw with Genoa.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The Gazzetta report that the changes could come on the flanks in particular.
Inter did not quite get their Serie A title defense off to the start that they’d hoped to this weekend.
The Nerazzurri could only take a point away from the Marassi. They still have not beaten Genoa away since 2020.
It was not a terrible performance by Inter. But particularly in the second half of the match, it became clear that the squad was not in optimal physical condition.
This was the result of a tough preseason as much as anything.
The majority of Inter’s squad returned to training late after brief vacations following participation in the Euros and the Copa America this summer.
The result was that many key members of the Nerazzurri squad lacked adequate time to build their physical condition and match sharpness.
The coach will make a few changes to the lineup for Inter’s next match, the Gazzetta report. He should swap out at least two or three players.
The Nerazzurri take on Lecce in their first home match of the campaign on Saturday.
According to the Gazzetta, it is likely that Carlos Augusto will start that match. The Brazilian had looked fresher than many of his teammates when he came off the bench at the Marassi.
Augusto will take the place of either Federico Dimarco or Alessandro Bastoni, who both looked leggy against Genoa.
And at right-wingback, the Gazzetta reports, Denzel Dumfries is likely to start ahead of Matteo Darmian.
Meanwhile, the Gazzetta anticipate, Benjamin Pavard could regain his place in defense from Yann Bisseck.
