Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is hoping to “polish another diamond” in Tomas Palacios.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They suggest that the Argentine could follow in the footsteps of Yann Bisseck at the club.

21-year-old Argentina youth team international Palacios is now officially an Inter player.

There was a bit of a nervous wait in the last few days of the transfer window.

The Nerazzurri had to wait upon Argentine clubs Talleres and Independiente Rivadivia to sort out the bureaucratic details of the move, considering their co-ownership situation of Palacios.

But on deadline day, Inter got the deal over the line.

Palacios joined Inter, ready to reinforce the Nerazzurri’s defense.

The Nerazzurri have signed Palacios as a backup for Alessandro Bastoni on the left of their back three.

Inter believe that the 21-year-old has the right profile to do so. And his age was a key factor, as Nerazzurri owners Oaktree Capital wanted to invest in a young player with room to grow.

Inzaghi Hoping To “Polish Another Diamond” In Tomas Palacios

Palacios is certainly not joining Inter as the finished article.

The 21-year-old has yet to experience top flight football outside of his native Argentina.

The step up to Inter, and to Serie A and the Champions League will be a big one for Palacios.

But there is a reason why Inter have shown enough faith in the young defender to invest in him.

Palacios is a player whose height, physicality, and pace look to be at a level where he will not look out of place at the Serie A level.

And technically, the 21-year-old has shown a high level of proficiency.

There is an obvious parallel. Twelve months ago, Yann Bisseck arrived at Inter as a player whose technical and physical qualities were clear – but who’d had virtually no top flight experience outside of Denmark.

Within twelve months, Inzaghi has turned the German into a starting-quality player for Inter.

And with tactical work and patience, the Inter coach will hope to do the same with Palacios.
