Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi says that “we’ll see” if Hakan Calhanoglu is fit to start against AC Milan.
The Nerazzurri coach spoke in a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Serie A derby, as reported by FCInterNews. He also confirmed that he expects Inter to make a signing.
Inter take on city rivals AC Milan in the derby tomorrow.
One of the big questions for the Nerazzurri starting eleven concerns the fitness of midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.
Calhanoglu is only just coming back from an injury.
The Turkish international should certainly be in the squad tomorrow. He has been back in training since Thursday.
However, Calhanoglu’s availability to play from the first minute remains a significant doubt.
Inter coach Inzaghi noted that “Calhanoglu and Acerbi completed their first training session with the group in a while yesterday.”
“While they’d worked partially on Thursday, they’re improving. They’re ready to give us a hand.”

Inzaghi noted that “This season, Calhanoglu has had a few more injury problems compared to the previous ones.”
“We’re trying to get him back as quickly as possible,” the Inter coach said. “We know what he means for us.”
“Yesterday he did well in training,” Inzaghi said of Calhanoglu. “But today I’ll have to evaluate him.”
“Up to yesterday, there was a good possibility he would not have been able to start. But I’ll see if he’s doing better today and tomorrow.”
“I’ll have to evaluate him carefully,” the Inter coach said.
Meanwhile, Inzaghi also gave his thoughts on the Serie A title race.
“At the moment,” the Nerazzurri coach said. “Napoli, Inter, and Atalanta have a bit of an advantage.”
“They’re the three favourites.”
“But I wouldn’t forget the other teams, who could also go on a run and get back into the title race.”
Inzaghi stressed that “Everyone has to focus on their own team.”
“I’m thinking about mine, and in the next day and a half we’ll try and prepare for tomorrow’s match at our best.”
Meanwhile, Inzaghi also updated on the transfer market. Inter reportedly are chasing Roma’s Nicola Zalewski to replace Tajon Buchanan.
The Nerazzurri coach said that “I haven’t spoken with anyone yet about the transfer market.”

“Today I’ll talk to the President [Beppe Marotta], [Sporting Director Piero] Ausilio and [Assistant Sporting Director Dario] Baccin, who are always behind us,” he continued.
Inzaghi said that “Yesterday I spent all day watching video of Milan, along with the team.”
“We watched [the Supercoppa Italiana final against Milan] in Riyadh back. We looked at both the negatives and the positives.”
“I wasn’t thinking about the transfer market,” insisted the Inter coach.
“Two top young players [Buchanan and Tomas Palacios] left,” Inzaghi continued. “They were with us, but they needed more playing time, and they were struggling to get it here.”
But the Inter coach made clear that “We’ll do something” in the final days of the transfer window.
And of tomorrow’s derby clash with Milan, Inzaghi said that “We know the quality of the team we’re up against.”
“The first two derbies of the season went badly for us,” the Inter coach admitted.
“The first one we fully deserved to lose. The second, we were in control at first, but then we had to do better.”
Inzaghi argued that “For the first goal [of Milan’s 3-2 comeback win] there was a foul on Asllani.”
“But we needed to react better.”
“We missed good chances to make it 3-1 more than once,” the Nerazzurri coach noted. “And then we all saw how it ended.”
Inzaghi acknowledged that Inter “have to do better in the decisive moments in the match.”
