They won the Lombardian Derby by four unanswered goals, much to the delight of the home crowd at San Siro.

However, the brilliant show was marred by two injury concerns. Bastoni and Calahnoglu both exited the pitch at the hour-mark after sustaining muscular problems.

Nevertheless, Inzaghi had provided the fans with some positive updates after the encounter.

“Lautaro joining the Argentine national team? This doesn’t worry me, he worked very well for the team. Instead, I’m worried about Bastoni and Calhanoglu,” said the Nerazzurri coach in his post-match press conference via FcInterNews.

“But it doesn’t seem like anything serious, the doctors reassured me. These are two alarm bells, then we will have Barella who will undergo a small operation on his nasal septum.

“I will have ten outfield players at my disposal during the international break. So we will train with the Primavera boys.”

Regarding the match, Inzaghi only had words of praise for his players who delivered a fine showing.

“We played a great game. The boys interpreted it well. We had determination and aggression, playing an excellent first half hour. Then we gave the field to Atalanta in the last quarter of an hour of the first half.

“In the second half, we came in hungry, creating chances and scoring two goals. The game was easier in the last 20 minutes. Great performance overall.”

The 48-year-old tactician also reserved Marcus Thuram with some special plaudits after scoring a brace.

“Marcus is working very well, we spoke during the holidays. I told him that we needed him to return earlier because of Taremi’s injury.

“I’m happy with him and Lauti, who until this morning, I didn’t know if he would start or not.

“Everyone is working well, including Arnautovic and Correa. We need them all, because after the break there will be a higher pace of matches.

“Today five substitutes of them came on, but all deserved to come on. I’m reassured by the fact that they were all available.”

Finally, Inzaghi looked back on the 2-2 draw against Genoa on the opening day of the season. He insists his team deserved to come out with more based on the display.

“I was angry for not having won the match. Then I watched it again and we deserved something more, but football can be ruthless.

“For the first match of the season, I was happy with the performance but disappointed by the result, as were my boys.”
