Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has called up teenage defender Matteo Motta for today’s Serie A match against Cagliari.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note that injuries have forced the Nerazzurri coach’s hand.
At the moment, Inter are looking very thin in defensive areas.
Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard are still out with thigh injuries. Meanwhile, Matteo Darmian will miss today’s Serie A clash with Cagliari due to a knee problem.
Stefan de Vrij is back and ready to start, a positive.
However, there still aren’t all that many defensive options available to Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.
One option that Inzaghi always has is to turn to the Inter youth team.
The Nerazzurri Under-19 or Primavera side remains a real showcase of young talent.
Therefore, the Gazzetta report, that is exactly what the Inter coach intends to do this evening.
19-year-old defender Matteo Motta will travel with the Inter squad to Cagliari this evening.
Naturally, the chances of the teenage left-back starting are not very high.
But it will be an important experience for Motta. And for Inzaghi, it will mean making up the numbers in the squad in difficult circumstances.
