Inter Milan are one step away from getting Stefan De Vrij to commit his long-term future to the club, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Nerazzurri have been locked in contract extension negotiations with the Dutchman for several months, but there may finally be light at the end of the tunnel with the defender ready to put pen to paper.

The offer on the table is €4 million per season deal that will run until 2025, which is relatively the same as the player’s current salary package.

However, there will be decisive meetings with De Vrij and his entourage in the coming days, with the player now ready to extend his stay at the San Siro beyond the end of the season.

Inter are poised to lose Milan Skriniar to French champions Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer when his contract runs out this summer, and they are keen to avoid the same mistake with De Vrij.

Often deployed at the heart of Simone Inzaghi’s back three, De Vrij has made just 16 Serie A appearances this season, perhaps a reflection of the uncertainty that surrounded his future.

De Vrij was not short on interest, with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and La Liga giants Atletico Madrid plotting a move for the Dutchman at the end of the season.

However, with the 31-year-old’s contract dilemma now all but sorted, Inter can focus on tying some of their other stars to new deals.

Alessandro Bastoni is one of those that the Nerazzurri are trying to tie to a new deal amid interest from Spurs, who were linked with a move for the defender last summer, but nothing materialised.

Bastoni’s contract runs until 2024, and Inter have already tabled a renewal offer, but a deal is yet to be finalised, with the player’s camp holding out for a higher salary package.
