Inter Milan and Canada wingback Tajon Buchanan will undergo surgery following a broken tibia suffered yesterday in training.

This according to journalist Matthew Scianitti with Canadian broadcaster TSN. He anticipates that the surgery will take place tomorrow in the Dallas hospital where Buchanan is recovering.

Yesterday, Inter got some unexpected and very unwelcome news regarding one of their players.

25-year-old wingback Buchanan suffered a major injury during training with the Canadian national team.

Buchanan has been at the Copa America with Canada. He has played in all three of his national team’s group stage matches.

However, Buchanan will not play any further role at the tournament.

And it will also be a long while before the Canadian takes to the pitch for Inter as well.

Buchanan’s injury is a very serious one. Scianitti confirms that the 25-year-old has suffered a break to his tibia in the shock injury which took place while challenging for a ball in training.

The big question was always going to be whether the former Club Brugge wingback would require surgery.

Obviously, the kind of injury that Buchanan has picked up was always going to require a lengthy recovery time.

But now, less than 24 hours after the Inter wingback suffered the injury, the doctors have confirmed it.

Buchanan will require surgery following his leg break.

According to TSN reporter Scianitti Buchanan is to be operated tomorrow. At the Dallas hospital where Buchanan is recovering.

Following tomorrow’s procedure, further updates could emerge regarding Buchanan’s recovery timeline.

One thing that is certain, however, is that this is just the beginning of a long healing process.
