Inter Milan have drawn up their shortlist of defensive targets, including Giorgio Scalvini, Alessandro Buongiorno, Leny Yoro, and Jorrel Hato.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
Inter already have two key pieces of transfer business all but done for next summer.
Porto’s Mehdi Taremi and Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski are set to arrive, both on free transfers. They will strengthen the attack and midfield respectively.
But Inter won’t stop there.
Tuttosport note that there are a couple other priorities. One would be strengthening at right-wingback, in the event that Denzel Dumfries leaves.
And Inter will also be on the lookout for long-term replacements for Yann Sommer in goal.
But it is at the centre of defense that the biggest priority will lay.
Currently, Inter have two starting-quality options in the central position in the back three.
And both of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij have been enjoying outstanding seasons. They have m,ore than played their part in Inter’s stellar defensive record.
But both Acerbi and de Vrij are well into their thirties now. And the pair of former Lazio defenders’ contracts both expire at the end of June 2025.
So Inter are certainly thinking about the future of the squad in that central-defensive position.
Tuttosport report that Inter’s two top targets for the central defensive role are not surprising ones.
Atalanta’s Scalvini and Torino’s Buongiornio have been among the outstanding young Italian defenders in recent seasons.
Neither would need to adjust to Serie A. And both have shown proficiency playing in a back three.
But the main issue with both Scalvini and Buongiorno concerns the price tag.
Both young Azzurri stars would cost in excess of €40 million.
So Inter are also looking at other possible targets. One is a Torino teammate of Buongiorno, Perr Schurrs.
Former Ajax defender Schuurs is currently out with a knee injury. But he has the right profile for Inter when he returns, and was in fact a target to replace Milan Skriniar last summer before Inter signed Benjamin Pavard.
Then there are a couple younger players shining around Europe who Inter are eyeing up.
One is 18-year-old Lille defender Leny Yoro. And another 17-year-old Ajax defender Jorrel Hato, also a major target for Ajax.
If Inter’s aim is to replace Acerbi and de Vrij in the long term but still rely on the veteran pair for a couple seasons longer, a player in this age bracket could stand out.
Then, there are a couple defender in the Bundesliga who Inter are keeping tabs on.
One is Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah. And another is Union Berlin’s Danilho Doekhi, a target SempreInter has revealed in the past.
