Nerazzurri assistant coach Massimiliano Farris is hopeful Lautaro Martinez can do “the impossible” to be fit for Inter Milan against Barcelona.
Farris spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, ahead of today’s Serie A clash with Hellas Verona. He noted that Marcus Thuram and Denzel Dumfries have already done so.
Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is the major fitness doubt for the Nerazzurri ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League semifinal second leg against Barcelona.
Martinez started the first leg this past Wednesday. However, he had to come off the pitch at halftime.
Medical tests revealed that the Argentine had suffered “elongation” in his left thigh flexors. However, he has not suffered a serious muscle injury.
Therefore, it is hardly out of the question that Martinez could return for the second leg.
Nevertheless, Martinez only has a few days in which to recover. Therefore, the timeline will certainly be tight.

Inter Milan assistant coach Massimiliano Farris is filling in for Simone Inzaghi against Verona today. The head coach is serving a one-match suspension.
And Farris noted that “Thuram and Dumfries did the impossible to be available in Barcelona.
“And Lautaro will do the same.”
The Inter assistant coach noted that “we’ll assess what the situation is day by day.”
“But he’ll try to make himself available,” Farris made clear.
Meanwhile, Farris admitted that whether or not some regular starters come on this evening against Verona “will depend on how the match goes.”
“We have to try and preserve the players who have used up a lot of energy. And who have come back from injuries.”
Farris elaborated on the fitness of Lautaro Martinez that “I’m not saying much.”
“He doesn’t have an injury,” the assistant coach stated. “There’s an elongation. And we have to see how our captain is able to recover.”
Meanwhile, Farris said that squad rotation ahead of the second leg against Barcelona “is applicable for both teams.”
“We made these decision after squeezing every last drop out of the guys in a brilliant match in Barcelona.”
“We needed fresh strength,” said the Inter assistant coach.
“Despite Napoli’s win, even though it no longer depends only on us, we want to stay in the running and win this evening.”
