Lautaro Martinez grabbed the spotlight last season as Inter strolled to their 20th Scudetto.

Indeed, Simone Inzaghi’s charges only suffered two league defeats en route to leaving second-placed AC Milan 19 points behind.

And Martinez was central to Inzaghi’s project.

With 24 goals, he won the Capocannoniere award, outscoring Juventus ace Dusan Vlahovic by eight.

Furthermore, the 27-year-old forged a formidable attacking partnership with Marcus Thuram.

The superstar duo formed the backbone of Inter’s scintillating domestic campaign.

For further context, they were involved in 63 percent of Nerazzurri’s 89 league goals.

In addition to bagging 24, Martinez tallied six assists.

Meanwhile, Thuram chipped in with 13 goals and as many assists in his phenomenal maiden season at Giuseppe Meazza.

Martinez has reigned supreme in Serie A since swapping Racing Club for Inter in 2018.

However, last season was his best in the Nerazzurri shirt.

At one point, his scoring ratio made it look possible for him to shatter Ciro Immobile’s outright record in Italy’s top flight.

Though he eventually failed to achieve that, the FIFA World Cup champions with Argentina deserved the prize.

“It was a great honor for me to have received this award,” Martinez said.

“Thanks mainly to my teammates and all the staff who work with us every day.

“And also thanks to all those who voted for me.

“We always look ahead to continue growing and to achieve group objectives.

“It’s the most important focus, then subsequently win individual awards as well.”
