Inter Milan already have a verbal agreement with midfielder Nicolo Barella regarding a new contract until the end of June 2029.

One of Inter’s key priorities for this summer is to tie down a few of the biggest names in the squad on new contracts.

Captain Lautaro Martinez is certainly at the top of the last. And right alongside him is midfielder Barella.

The former Cagliari midfielder is certainly one of Inter’s most important players.

Moreover, Barella would attract no shortage of transfer interest were there to be any hint that he is on the market.

Last summer Arsenal and Manchester United showed interest in bringing Barella to the Premier League. Manchester City and Liverpool are also long-term admirers.

Inter & Nicolo Barella Already Have Verbal Agreement On New Contract

At the moment, Barella is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.

However, the Nerazzurri have been working to extend that. They want Barella on a long-term deal as a kind of “hands off” message to other big clubs around Europe.

There have already been a few rounds of negotiations between Inter and Barella’s representatives.

And according to the Gazzetta, there has already been a meeting that was all but decisive.

Inter held a round of talks with Barella’s representatives while in Madrid last month. The Nerazzurri were in the Spanish capital for the second leg of a Champions League round of sixteen tie against Atletico Madrid.

And the Gazzetta report that these talks have already produced an agreement in principle on a new deal.

Barella will commit his future until the end of June 2029 at least.

And the 27-year-old’s wages will rise to €7 million net per season plus add-ons.

Inter are awaiting final approval from the owners to seal the new contract. But everything is essentially in place for Barella to put pen to paper.
