Inter Milan will defend their Supercoppa Italiana crown next calendar year as Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, hosts the mini-tournament in January 2025.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the showpiece event will coincide with a New Year’s Eve in the Arabian peninsula.
Indeed, a mouth-watering semi-final encounter between reigning holders Inter and free-flowing Atalanta on January 2, 2025, will kick off the competition.
Eternal rivals AC Milan and Juventus will trade tackles the following day to determine the other finalist.
The title-deciding fixture falls on Monday, January 6, with all matches scheduled to take place at 20:00 CEST, Italian time.
Inter will defend the title, seeking their fourth consecutive Supercoppa Italiana title under trophy-laden manager Simone Inzaghi.
There’s much more at stake than just bragging rights.
With the total prize money of €28 million, all participants will view this as an opportunity to bolster their bank accounts.
The winner will take home an eye-watering €8m, with the runner-up set to earn €5m.
All four teams will receive €1.5 just for participating in the competition.
As for the other €7m, the remaining 16 Serie A clubs will get a percentage.
Interestingly, there will be no extra time in the latest edition of the Supercoppa Italiana.
Each game would go straight to a penalty shootout in case of a draw in regulation time.
Despite their stuttering Serie A start, Inter are the leading candidates to reclaim the trophy.
Inzaghi knows in-depth about winning this title, having lifted it five times, including twice with Lazio.
However, Inter must not underestimate the strength of other contenders, even though they strolled to success last term.
The Nerazzurri won the 2023 installment without conceding as they overcame Fiorentina and Napoli in Riyadh.
