Italian police arrested 19 individuals suspected of criminal connections to the notorious ‘Ndrangheta mafia.

It’s a crackdown that severely damaged fan groups supporting Inter and AC Milan on Monday.

The extensive investigation revealed that the criminal network has close ties with ‘Ndrangheta.

An Italian mafia group that has risen in recent years to become one of the world’s most powerful crime syndicates.

Subsequently, suspects have allegedly attempted to take control of all lucrative business activities around Giuseppe Meazza. Those include parking, food, tickets, and souvenir sales.

On top of that, investigators have indications that several incarcerated high-ranked fans have had their hand in drug trafficking.

For instance, Giancarlo Lombardi, once a prominent face of the Rossoneri’s famous Curva Sud, is now behind bars.

In addition to Lombardi’s house, policed searched around 50 others.

Furthermore, it includes that of Antonio Bellocco, a former local ’Ndrangheta boss who was murdered a few weeks ago.

On the other hand, Inter and Milan have quickly taken a defensive stance. Yet, the recent update states the clubs are currently off the hook.

Prosecutor Marcello Viola insists the two Serie A powerhouses are not on his radar for now.

“The clubs are damaged by this criminal affair,” he said.

“And that is why Inter and Milan – of which no manager or member is under investigation – are careful not to defend themselves from accusations no one has made against them.”

Meanwhile, Milan chiefs were quick to issue a report, making themselves available to local authorities.

“With regard to the investigation involving members of the organized supporters, the Rossoneri club immediately made itself available to collaborate with the investigators,” the statement read.

Like their bitter rivals, Inter Milan are making no comments.
