Inter may well have refused to make a sale of promising young midfielder Cesare Casadei this summer had they already brought in a big fee for a player like Milan Skriniar.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that it is possible that the Nerazzurri would have been inclined to resist offers for Chelsea-bound Casadei if there had been another source of cash from the transfer market.

Casadei’s move to Chelsea should be wrapped up in the next couple days after the two clubs agreed a fee for the 19-year-old, and he is a player who has been on the Blues’ radar for some time and head coach Thomas Tuchel is already a big fan.

Inter did not take the decision to sell Casadei lightly, even though they are set to receive as much as €20 million including add-ons for a young player who has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Nerazzurri.

However, the financial needs at the club are pressing, and given that priority has been given to not sacrificing any players important to the first-team plans who would command a big fee like Skriniar, the sale of Casadei was sanctioned.
