Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini has admitted that it is a disappointment to be unable to celebrate the club’s Scudetto with fans, after a 5-1 win over Sampdoria today.

The Italian international opened the scoring and set up Alexis Sanchez for another as Inter secured a comprehensive victory at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, less than a week after securing the Serie A title.

The Nerazzurri were accompanied to the stadium by groups of celebrating fans but Gagliardini expressed his regret at not being able to share the experience of a first Scudetto since 2010 with supporters.

“The joy for our accomplishment is certainly there for all to see. The fact that there cannot be fans and gatherings is a regret that we will carry over the years because such unique emotions are there to be share with the supporters,” Gagliardini claimed.

“It’s okay though, we are enjoying it as much as it is possible to do and it is already beautiful.

“I am quite happy even if I was unable to finish the game due to a problem that I have been carrying for a few weeks, but I will try to recover as soon as possible.”

Inter have been in incredible form since the turn of the year and Gagliardini felt that a change in tactical approach had been a key factor in their success, whilst important victories had given the team confidence.

“I think there have been several matches that were turning points this year and certainly the one against Sassuolo was one of them. We changed our attitude and behaviour, but then the victories against Juventus and Milan were also fundamental.”

Curiously, Gagliardini has scored seven of his 14 goals for Inter against teams from the city of Genoa but the 27-year-old put it down to coincidence.

“It’s simply chance. The important thing is to get the ball in the net, it doesn’t matter who by,” Gagliardini added.
