Inter midfielder Matias Vecino is glad that he was able to make a major contribution to the Nerazzurri on his first start for his club of the season, as they beat Bologna 6-1 in Serie A.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the 30-year-old gave his immediate reaction to a match in which he got his first goal of the season in his first appearance from the start under head coach Simone Inzaghi.

Vecino was not unable to feature regularly last season as the Nerazzurri won the Scudetto, thanks to persistent injury troubles, though he was able to get on the pitch and contribute at times.

This season, he is aiming to have a more prominent role and to show his best form on the way to helping the team make a positive impression in all the competitions they’re in under new head coach Inzaghi.

He showed what he is capable of well in this evening’s Serie A clash, helping the team to a 6-1 win over Bologna at the San Siro.

“Last year I had already played three-four games, this year this is my first start for Inter. I was very keen to show that I’m ready and that I can help.”

Asked whether Inzaghi has different expectations compared to previous coach Antonio Conte, the Uruguayan felt that the ex-Lazio tactician has similarities to his predecessor.

“No, more or less the same things. I always try to attack the area and maybe cover for the wing-back. [Matteo] Darmian puts in nice crosses, [Denzel] Dumfries is perhaps faster and we have to make good use of what he is capable of.”
