Inter Miami has experienced another setback, with winger Corentin Jean suffering a left ACL tear during the team's 3-1 loss to the New England Revolution on June 10th.
The club has announced that the 27- year-old is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Since signing for the South Florida club from RC Lens in Ligue 1 in 2022, Jean had been an on-and-off starter, only clocking in 73 minutes on the field in his first season. In 2023, Jean had settled into the squad and played 12 games but only scored once during those appearances. The team will likely rely on wingers Robert Taylor, Nicolas Stefanelli, and Edison Azcona to get through this period.
The Herons have had a tough 2023. Although the team in black and pink managed to secure two victories against CF Montreal and the Philadelphia Union at the beginning of the season, they went on a poor run of form that saw them lose seven straight games, which ultimately led then-head coach Phil Neville to be relieved of his duties.
Additionally, two of Miami’s key midfielders, Jean Mota and Gregore, have also suffered long-term injuries. Mota has been out with an LCL tear since May 4th, and Gregore has been out with a Lisfranc fracture since early March.
Miami will be able to get some much-needed help on the field with the opening of the Secondary Transfer Window on July 5th. World Cup winner Lionel Messi has already announced his intentions to play for the team, and the club is also in talks with midfielder Sergio Busquets and rumored to be after forward Luis Suarez.
