Inter Miami CF have transferred central defender Nicolas Figal to Boca Juniors on a permanent deal, the club announced Monday.
Figal stands as Inter Miami’s second player to depart to the Argentine Primera División this offseason, after previously loaning Leandro Gonzalez Pirez to River Plate through 2023.
“We would like to thank Nico for his contributions to the club in its first two seasons and wish him well in his desired return to his home country,” chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson said in a release.
“This transaction gives us roster and salary cap flexibility ahead of our 2022 MLS campaign. We’re confident the team we’re building will help us achieve our goals moving forward.”
Figal first joined the South Florida side in January 2020 after featuring for Independiente and Olimpo in Argentina. The defender recorded one goal and two assists across 45 Major League Soccer appearances.
The departure of Figal marks another move for Inter Miami as they work to revolutionize the roster ahead of the 2022 MLS season. Chris Henderson has previously expressed the expansion side’s interest to rebuild the roster after a disappointing 2021 campaign.
Inter Miami returns to action on February 26 when hosting the Chicago Fire at DRV PNK Stadium.
