Inter Miami sign former Liga MX player Ventura Alvarado | OneFootball

Inter Miami have signed center-back Ventura Alvarado through to the end of the 2021 MLS season, with the contract open to club options for 2022 and 2023. The player will join the south Florida team pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.

The 28-year old player will arrive to Major League Soccer after playing in Liga MX for almost a decade, most recently with Atletico San Luis. During his ten years in Mexico, Alvarado also featured for Club Necaxa, Santos Laguna and Club America. He registered 186 appearances across all competitions while claiming two MX Clausura titles, one Apertura trophy and the Concacaf Champions League twice.

“We’re excited to sign Ventura to Inter Miami to add depth and help us solidify our backline. He’s an experienced center-back who has played at a high level in Mexico and with the national team,” Inter Miami chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson said in a release.

“We’ve seen his talent on the pitch and positive attitude and character off it firsthand and we’re looking forward to his contributions to the squad.”

Internationally, Alvarado recorded 13 appearances for the United States men’s national team after making his debut during a friendly against Denmark in March 2015. He went on to feature for the American side during the 2015 Concacaf Gold Cup, where the United States reached the semifinals before losing to Jamaica.

Inter Miami desperately needed a defender to aid the club’s backline as they sit in last place of the Eastern Conference with nine points in 13 matches. Alvarado must look to bolster the team’s defenders, who have been scored on 23 times this season for a shocking goal difference of -13.
