Inter Miami are preparing to make a blockbuster offer for Luka Modrić as they look to make the Croatia international one of their Designated Players.
Modrić has 18 months left on his Real Madrid contract and is believed to want to see out his time in the Spanish capital before moving on to pastures new.
It means that Modrić will not join David Beckham’s new team until the 2021 campaign but Inter Miami are already looking to the future and hope to bring the Ballon d’Or winner in for their second full season as a club.
The Athletic say that Modrić has had advanced talks with DC United but that Miami are looking to blow their Eastern Conference rivals out of the water by offering the 34-year-old a contract worth double that of his current deal at Santiago Bernabéu.
As one of their three Designated Players, Modrić’s salary would be allowed to sit outside the league-wide salary cap.
Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have also been linked with the South Beach side.
