In recent days, speculation over a possible departure for Lionel Messi from Inter Miami has been making headlines across the United States. As talk of renewed Saudi Arabian interest in Messi resurfaces, ESPN Argentina has reported that La Pulga is considering a club change just ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The 38-year-old forward is said to be tempted by the idea of preparing for his final major tournament with the Albiceleste in a league more competitive than MLS.

This rumor prompted a response from MLS communications director Mahonry Mendoza. "Messi's contract runs until the end of the year (2025), specifically until the close of the MLS season, and it will proceed as normal. After that, Inter Miami's management will decide on his possible one-year extension. They will make the decision together with the player. Jorge Mas, Inter Miami's co-owner, has expressed optimism about Messi staying with the team next year, and he will be present at the inauguration of Miami Freedom Park, the club's new stadium, in March 2026." he stated.

According to Marca, no agreement has been reached, but Messi has very clear goals with Inter Miami. The Argentine wants to win the MLS with the Florida franchise, be present at the inauguration of his club's new stadium, and then head to the World Cup with his national team. And that's not all.

A source within the American club told the daily: "Leo has a valid contract, and his deal with Inter does not expire until the end of 2025. The reality is that both parties are seeking continuity and are working with the necessary determination to achieve it."
