Inter Miami emerge as favourites to sign Lionel Messi | OneFootball

With a definite decision on his future expected any moment now, three clubs remain in the race to sign soon-to-be former Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi, who could either return to Barcelona, or leave Europe for the United States or Saudi Arabia.

According to L’Équipe this afternoon, Inter Miami have now emerged as the strong favourites to secure the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s signing, even if talks are still ongoing and the Argentine’s priority is still to go back to Catalonia. A move that would see Messi cross the pond but spend the first half of next season on loan with the Blaugrana is also a possibility, but the chances of Barcelona bringing back their all-time top scorer permanently appear slim.

Messi is not expected to join the spate of stars – Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kanté – who are accepting lucrative contracts from Saudi Arabia. L’Équipe indicate that Messi and his wife Antonela are not keen on moving to the Gulf state with their three children. In any case, the 35-year-old forward is expected to announce his decision via social media in the near future.
