Inter and Juventus are both closely following the contract extension of defender Chris Smalling at Roma.

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports on his homepage that both the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri are waiting to see if the 33-year-old will extend his contract with the Giallorossi, in view of a possible free transfer opportunity.

As things stand, Smalling’s contract with Roma runs out at the end of June 2023.

According to Di Marzio, the capital club want to extend the former Manchester United defender’s contract, not yet having gotten a positive response to the offer of a new two-year deal that would see him less than the €3.5 million net per season of his current deal.

The Giallorossi are keen to try and get Smalling’s situation clarified in the near future.

In the meantime, both Inter and Juventus are admirers of the Englishman, and would be prepared to move for Smalling on a free transfer next summer if he does not agree a new deal with Roma.
