Inter will likely bring in at least one new defender next summer and, in addition to being after some veterans, they are paying close attention to the growth of Nicolò Bertola at Spezia. He’d fit the profile indicated by Oaktree. He’s 21 and earns just 100k per year. Moreover, his contract expires in 2025, Calciomercato relays.
The talent is having a breakthrough season as he wasn’t a staple in the past one. He has started every game and scored twice. He cut his teeth with Montevarchi in Serie C in 2022/2023. The center-back has four caps with Italy U-21. He debuted in Serie A back in 2022, when he was 17, with Thiago Motta on the bench. He got some action after the Aquilotti mathematically avoided relegation that year. As a matter of fact, Juventus are keeping tabs on him as well.
Bertola caught the attention of Inter, which routinely scout Spezia matches to follow their loanee Francesco Pio Esposito, and several other sides ahead of a potential Bosman signing. He’s represented by Tullio Tinti, the same agent as Alessandro Bastoni.
According to Il Secolo XIX (via Mediaset), his team wants to avoid losing him for nothing. There’ll be a key meeting to haggle his renewal soon. Genoa, Torino, Venezia, and Bologna are keen too.
He’ll be headed to Serie A soon if he keeps it up for a couple more months as his talent is manifest. A January switch, perhaps with a loan back at Spezia, could be in the cards given his contractual situation. The side that agrees to do rather than wait could emerge victorious. Otherwise, it’ll be a very spicy race to sign him on a free.
