It was a slip-and-slide contest in Bergamo as heavy rain forced the first half of this clash to be a cautious affair – but that doesn’t mean it didn’t get entertaining.

Attempts were initially scarce, and Inter were forced into an early substitution when Benjamin Pavard slipped and injured his knee.

While the Frenchman was stretchered off, his replacement Matteo Darmian proved vital for the opener as he drew a foul inside the box. Hakan Çalhanoğlu then stepped up and slammed his penalty deep into the left corner.

Nicolo Barella was another player injured when Marten de Roon stepped on the Inter player’s head following a slip.

Lautaro Martinez later had a goal ruled out for a tight offside call before the Argentina star made the most of his second opportunity with a stunning curler from the edge of the box. He now has 12 league goals in 11 games this season.

After an incredibly quiet hour (again, likely due to the conditions), the hosts struck back out of nowhere to ensure this match finished with some drama.

Ademola Lookman stripped the ball off Federico Dimarco and crossed it towards a lurking Gianluca Scamacca who scored from point-blank range. It was his fifth goal in eight games since returning to Italy.

The former West Ham ace continued to threaten for an equaliser, as did substitute Luis Muriel.

However, a late second yellow from Rafael Tolói ensured a comeback was off the table as Atalanta went down to 10 men.

Looking at the table, Inter side first, five points above Juventus, while Atalanta are fifth 11 points back.
