Inter have been given a big boost in attack in the early part of the season by the increasingly attacking role played by Denzel Dumfries.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who note that the 26-year-old has been one of the Nerazzurri’s most attack-minded player in their first two Serie A matches, and that he is contributing like an out-and-out attacking winger.
Dumfries nominally plays as a wingback, but against Lecce and Spezia the Dutchman has bombed up the pitch without much restriction, regularly coming centrally to attack the penalty area and try to link up with the strikers.
Against Spezia, the former PSV wingback had three shots, which were Inter’s second most after goalscorer Lautaro Martinez, whilst he rated top of the Nerazzurri’s players in the “verticality index” which measures how much a player gets in behind an opposition defense, with his 6.5 score ahead of Martinez’s 5.
As Inter seek to impose an intense attacking tempo on opponents, it looks as though Dumfries will be one of their most potent weapons as they seek to throw the kitchen sink to find a way through.
