Inter stunned by Monza, dashing Nerazurri top-four hopes

Scorers: Caldirola 76′

Inter Milan’s top-four hopes were dashed as they fell at home to Monza, seeing the Nerazzurri fall out of the Champions League places for now.

While they had spoken in the week about avoiding a Champions League hangover, Inter limped out of the gates in the opening exchanges against Monza.

Struggling in front of goal, the Nerazzurri’s best chance came late on, as Kristjan Asllani flashed his free-kick effort just inches over the bar from the edge of the box.

Astonishingly, Monza snatched the lead in the final 15 minutes thanks to Luca Caldirola, who headed home from a corner kick to stun the San Siro crowd.

Despite a late push, Inter could not carve out the necessary chance to claw their way back into the game, seeing Monza secure a famous win at the San Siro.

Napoli’s attack frustrated against Hellas Verona

Scorers: N/A

Napoli continued to look a shadow of themselves after a dull 0-0 draw at home against bottom-side Hellas Verona.

Chances were few and far between as Victor Osimhen continued to sit on the bench as he recovers from injury, and the hosts struggled to threaten without their attacking stars.

The only shot on target in the first half between either side came from the visitors when Kevin Lasagna’s long-range effort was saved comfortably.

Still deadlocked at the break, Luciano Spalletti called on the big guns with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Piotr Zieliński coming off the bench, yet the hosts’ attack was incredibly dull.

Napoli had 8-% possession of the ball yet and didn’t put their first effort on target until the 83rd minute.

It’s an unfortunate result leading up to their must-win Champions League quarter-final against Milan, but the one saving grace will be seeing Osimhen play roughly 15 minutes, and he did hit the woodwork.

It’s also the club’s first draw in all competitions since August.

The result means Napoli now have a 14-point lead at the top over Lazio, while 18th-placed Hellas Verona picked up a big point in their race to avoid relegation.

Bologna stun Milan out of nowhere

Scorers: Sansone 1′; Pobega 40′

In between two crunch Champions League quarter-finals with Napoli, Stefano Pioli’s heavily rotated squad slipped up against Bologna 1-1, seeing their top four hopes potentially slip away.

The match got off to a lightning-quick start as the hosts made only 11 passes before cracking the reigning champions.

Stefan Posch’s cross into the box was redirected home by Nicola Sansone, and the strike tied the record for the quickest goal Milan have conceded since 2000.

Over time the visitors went on to take control of the game as Bologna’s opener remained their only shot on target.

It wasn’t until a little bit of luck went their way did they draw level as Tommaso Pobega’s long-range strike hit off and in just before the break.

Coming out into the second half, the hosts managed to hold on as Milan ramped up the pressure and brought on big guns near the end of the match with five substitutions, including Rafael Leao and Brahim Diaz.

But nothing could crack the hosts a second time, despite the visitors registering 18 attempts by the 90-minute mark.

It means Milan can drop to fifth in the standings if Inter win later on, while Bologna are eighth.
