Lazar Samardžić opened the scoring in surprising fashion as he rolled a late first-half finish which caught several of the visitors’ defenders cold.

The Nerazzurri appeared to have levelled shortly after the interval through Carlos Augusto but the goal was disallowed for offside in the build-up.

But the champions-elect were handed a lifeline as goalkeeper Maduka Okoye conceded a penalty for a foul on Marcus Thuram when they vied for a cross.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu stepped up to convert from the spot to restore parity for Simone Inzaghi’s side and stretch their unbeaten domestic run to a 25th game.

Davide Frattesi snatched the spoils deep into added time by rolling home the rebound from Okoye parrying Lautaro Martínez’s initial effort.

Inter sit 14 points clear of city rivals Milan at the summit while Udinese drop down to 15th in the table.
