Inter Duo More Likely to Stay Thanks to UCL Heroics

Inter punched their ticket to the Champions League final thanks to the contribution of two players whose future with the team is far from certain: Davide Frattesi, who’s no stranger to scoring, and Francesco Acerbi, who leveled the game with a crafty finish.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there’s a chance their goals will help keep them around. The midfielder has never lacked suitors and would like a larger role. The price tag set by the Nerazzurri brass has always been lofty, though. In January, it was €45M for Roma and €70M for other Italian sides. The early acquisition of Petar Sucic could allude to his departure, but nothing is decided yet. The parties will take stock after the Club World Cup.

While Inter could sign off on selling Frattesi to turn a profit, the front office was leaning toward sticking with just one between Acerbi and Stefan De Vrij to get younger in the back. The agent of the latter has already announced that his client will stay.

The 37-year-old has had a tough first half of the season due to a few injuries, but he’s been impeccable when healthy. The front office can terminate his contract a year before its expiration date thanks to a clause. They’ll have to think harder about it now.

Our Take on Inter, Frattesi, and Acerbi

The fuss about the former has been coming more from his agent and the teams keen on him than from him directly. It could be possible to keep the veteran and still add a young stud in the back lists-wise. They’d have to make room elsewhere.
