Inter are not in danger of suffering a Serie A points deduction whatever happens this month, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition said the Nerazzurri would find a way to respect all the payment obligations they are due to fulfill before May 31.

Inter president Steven Zhang asked players yesterday to give up two months’ wages, to help the club with their financial problems.

If the players do not agree to this – and they seem unlikely to accept – Inter will have three weeks to pay their salaries for November, December and March (unless they reach agreements with the squad before then).

Inter would then have until June 30 to pay the installments for April and May, although the Rome-based paper said this deadline could yet change.

In any case, the squad will reject Zhang’s proposal for wage cuts because they believe they have already done enough to help Suning, having deferred several monthly payments until the end of this season.

Zhang used a calm and approachable tone when speaking to everyone at Appiano Gentile yesterday, and that is little surprise given the position he is in.

Suning have no way of enforcing the salary cuts if players do not agree to them, the report noted, so the only option is to try and talk them round.
