Simone Inzaghi’s side made a big statement against Udinese even after Juventus’ earlier win over Napoli piled on the pressure.

The visitors initially kept Serie A’s deadliest attack quiet, but the hosts went on to dominate the match over 90 minutes with a staggering 75% possession of the ball and 17 shots to 11.

Udinese will be happy to have held Inter up until the half-an-hour mark, but a stunning seven-minute spell displayed why they are gunning for the title.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu opened the scoring from the penalty spot, and he teed up Federico Dimarco to double the lead in the blink of an eye.

The entire team was then involved for the third goal as 21 passes cut Udinese apart and Marcus Thuram scored his seventh goal in 20 games for the club.

Inter’s captain later extended his league-leading tally to 14 goals as Lautaro Martinez blasted home a fourth from the edge of the box in the dying moments. He equalled the club’s record for most goals in a calendar year (28) dating back to 2000.

The Nerazzurri now sit two points above Juventus and it looks like the title will be decided between them after Milan’s recent loss to Atalanta sees them sit nine points back. Udinese, meanwhile, are 16th.
